Eric Klay has been performing with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra since 1977. He commissioned and gave the premiere performance of Concerto for Bass Trombone and Orchestra by Paul Sarcich in 1986, appeared as a soloist with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra for the International Trombone Association Symposium in 1988, recorded for film, television and radio as well as having backed the following artists on their Australian tours - Sammy Davis Jr., Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope, Debbie Reynolds, Juliet Prowse, Nelson Riddle / Linda Ronstadt and Elton John.

In 1995 he gave masterclasses and a solo performance at the International Trombone Association Symposium held at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and in 1996 was guest soloist with the Queensland Symphonic Winds, touring to Singapore, Hong Kong and Macau, once again performing Sarcich's Concerto (re-arranged for wind band). Eric is a part-time staff member at the Victorian College of the Arts and the Faculty of Music at The University of Melbourne.
