George Corbett studied the cello with Nicholas Jones at Chetham's School of Music, Manchester, and, while a student at Cambridge University, with Ralph Kirschbaum. A winner of numerous prizes, and a national string finalist in the BBC Young Musician of the Year, he has performed as a concerto soloist with the Arad Philharmonic on tour to Romania, with the Chetham's Symphony Orchestra at the Bridgewater Hall and the Royal College of Music, as well as appearances at the Rudolfinum in Budapest and elsewhere in Britain and Europe.

During his time at Chetham's George was picked out by Benjamin Zander as a 'natural conductor' and subsequently studied in George Hurst's class at Canford Conducting School, as well as working as assistant conductor to Stephen Cleobury and Peter Stark. As an undergraduate at Cambridge George conducted all the major university orchestras. As Artistic Director of the Opera Society he oversaw a number of productions and conducted a sell-out run of The Magic Flute at the ADC Theatre. He has subsequently been invited to guest conduct a number of orchestras and has conducted two highly successful tours to Budapest and Prague.

George Corbett currently combines a busy performance career as conductor and cellist with a PhD on Dante's moral philosophy, supported by The Arts and Humanities Research Council.
