Keith Elcombe was Organ Scholar at Trinity College, Cambridge, and then Senior Lecturer in Music and University Organist at Manchester University. He was also conductor of the University Chorus with whom he performed Britten's War Requiem and Bach's St. Matthew Passion.

He played continuo with a number of chamber ensembles and orchestras, and specialised in performing keyboard music of the 16th and 17th centuries. His critical writings are well known and he was a frequent contributor to various scholarly publications.

Ketih died in 2002 at the age of 61.
