On leaving the Grenadier Guards Band in 1969 during which time he met and wrote with a fellow army musician, Ian Macdonald, who went on to join King Crimson and Foreigner,  Philip joined Radio Luxembourg composing that iconic station's jingles; some of the moog synthesiser jingles recorded on a session at the Marquee Club studios, London, by Philip with Dr Robert Moog himself!

Carlin Music Corporation of America then signed Philip as a contract songwriter. He orchestrated and performed on the concept album 'The Road' as part of the band Quiet World with the Heather Brothers and Steve Hackett. He later orchestrated Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett's 'Prizefighters' performed by Bonnie Tyler on Steve's Feedback 86 album.

With Michael Ward providing the lyric, 'Symphony for My Love' went Platinum in Denmark.

Under the pseudonym of Philip le Breton, Philip produced several hit instrumental CDs , including Magical Encounters. All recently re - issued by Spiral Music. (all this music was programmed using an Atari/ notator program)

In 2005 Philip composed the musical score for The Far Pavilions which ran for six months in London's West End at the Shaftesbury Theatre. A CD of the score featuring The City of London Sinfonia conducted by Philip was released on Stage Door Records in 2009.

A concert of Philip's classical music was held at Cadogan Hall, London in 2011 featuring his works published by Edition Peters (London).

Philip's choral music is performed around the world. His major choral work '17 Poets', which he conducted in Shanghai in Feb 2015, was performed by the International Schools Choral Music Society. His work for solo cello and orchestra, 'On the Beach with Alice', was performed by cellist Jacob Shaw in Beijing in November 2013.During 2015 he recorded three new songs with the Prague Philharmonic orchestra, and Olivier award winning singer/actor Paul Baker performed, in his show Baker's Dozen, Philip and Michael Ward's song 'Brighter By Far' both in the West End and on Broadway.

Philip has also co-written the score for the movie Bombairiya scheduled for release in late 2016.
