The Metier Re-appraisal series continues, presenting Beethoven's Violin Sonatas in their musical and social context by including a little known work by one of Beethoven's mentors, pupils or close associates. Here with the three Op. 12 sonatas, we have the B flat sonata by Andreas Romberg who worked closely with Beethoven for a while and whose sonata is by measure very simple yet effective. While still showing classical restraint and form more than the new Romanticism of Beethoven, it is expressionist in that it incoporates Scottish traditional tunes, hence its nickname 'Scottische'.
